Welcome to EYFS Spring Term 24-25
Our Arctic Animal Pictures
In our creative and writing area, we have been creating our own Arctic animal pictures linked to our topic: Cold Places. We have been listening to lots of stories about different animals that like in Arctic and have found out about polar bears, penguins, arctic foxes, huskies and snowy owls. Some of us have chose to paint some of these animals in our painting area, some of us have chose to draw them on our writing table too and had a super go at writing their names by sounding out the letters we could hear. Well done Early Years so fantastic drawings and creations!
Investigating Ice- Rescuing the Frozen Animals
As the weather has been so cold outside, it has been great to help us better understand ice linked to our topic. We have really enjoyed exploring ice and seeing if we could save some frozen animals. We spoke about how ice forms and agreed it has to be very cold for this to happen. We were then challenged with how to melt it, some of us tried mixing the water really quickly, others tried using the sun to help the ice melt, some of us even tried to use our hands or wrapping the ice in paper towels. We found the best way to melt ice was to use some warm water. We were relieved to have saved the different animals using warm water.
Chinese New Year- Spring Rolls
We are celebrating Chinese New Year in Early Years and have lots of fun areas set up in our classroom from making noodle soup in our water area, making dragons in the play dough area, dancing to Chinese music in our curiosity corner, to making printed scaley snakes in our paint area! Today, the day of Chinese New Year, we celebrated by cooking some delicious spring rolls where we chopped, grated and rolled! We all enjoyed having a taste and sharing some prawn crackers.
Frozen Performances
In our curiosity corner, we have enjoyed dressing up as Frozen princesses then singing, dancing and playing musical instruments to different song from the Frozen films. We have explored the different instruments picking the ones we think would match the music and how we could move our bodies to the beat of the music. Some super Frozen performances!
Busy Bee P.E
This half term, we will be developing our ball skills. In P.E today we all turned into busy bees! We started off by making sure we could find a space and follow instructions like going to the flowers (cones) and the hives (corners of the hall). We then moved onto working with the balls which was our pollen, we used our hands to roll it and control it. We were tasked with finding different ways to stop the ball, some of us used our feet, hands, knees, elbows and even our tummies.

Maths 1-5
In Early Years our focus has been numbers, some of us have been consolidating up to 3 through Nursery Rhymes and some different activities in the areas. Some of us have moved onto 1-5. We have been learning some rhymes to help us with the formation and have also linked our number understanding to the Number Blocks programme. Fantastic Maths.
Music
We started our new unit of music today - Everyone! First we listened to the song “We are Family” by Sister Sledge. After listening to the song the children had to explain if they liked the song or not and explain why. We then talked about the instruments they could hear in the song and the type of music they thought it was. Next the children practised finding the beat of the songs “Wind the Bobbin” and “If you are happy and you know it…”. The children created different ways to find the beat including stamping, clapping, tapping and clicking. Some of the children took the lead and the children copied them. Finally we practised singing the two songs and added the actions. A great first music lesson!
