Music - Our World - Lesson 6
Singing in the Rain by Gene Kelly
We listened and appraised the song ‘Singing in the Rain’ by Gene Kelly. We were asked the questions: What can you hear? Who is singing? How did the song make you feel? Do you think the singer was happy or sad? We watched the video then tried to copy the dance routine. We pretended we had an umbrella and splashed our feet in the rain. We thought it was funny that the man singing was ‘happy’ ‘singing’ and ‘dancing’ in the rain. We thought about how the rain made us feel sad but after watching the video some of us changed our minds. Well done everyone!
Music - Lesson 2
I Feel Good by James Brown
We listened and appraised the song 'I Feel Good' by James Brown. We were asked the questions: Do you like the music? What can you hear? The children gave reasons as to why they did or did not like the music. Some of us thought it was too loud and didn't like the screaming parts. Some of us liked it because we liked the beat, we could dance to it and some of the words were funny. We were able to name some of the instruments we could hear but we learnt the names of many more that were played in the song. Well done!
Interactive Maths
Reception have been enjoying taking part in different interactive maths games using the interactive board. They have been counting, finding one more, one less, matching the number to quantities and repeating patterns.
Grouping
We have been exploring grouping a number of objects. We then had to find if the number of objects would make even or odd groups.
The Hundred Decker Bus
We have been retelling the story of “The Hundred Decker Bus” through drama. We had to read the story then talk about the key events before creating our own freeze frames.
Making Our Own Gruffalo
We have been very creative in our learning. This week we have been using clay and natural resources to create our own ideas of the Gruffalo. We were all given a piece of clay and then used outdoor resources to create our final piece. We are looking forward to writing about our creation in our literacy.
Music - Lesson 3
Don't You Worry Bout A Thing by Incognito
We listened and appraised the song: ‘Don’t You Worry Bout A Thing’ by Incognito. To begin the lesson we discussed the title and thought about what it meant. We were asked the questions: Do you like the music? What can you hear? How does it make you feel?
We tried hard to remember the names of the instruments associated with ‘Funk’ music from our previous lessons. We remembered that trumpets and horns were used in this style of music.
We then danced to the music, found the pulse using different parts of our bodies to tap out the rhythm and decided the tempo was slow.
We also sang two nursery rhymes and practised our focus song ‘Big Bear Funk’. We listened and copied back the actions of the ‘bear’, ‘monkey’ and ‘chicken’. Well done everybody!
Boats
In our maths, we have been creating boats to see how many marbles would take to sink them. We enjoyed getting creative and making our own style boats using junk modelling. We then enjoyed testing our boats to see how many marbles it took to sink them. We counted to twenty and beyond.
Be Safe, Be Fit, Be Healthy Week
Jujitsu
Reception and some of Nursery, enjoyed a taster class in jujitsu. We enjoyed doing a warm up to get our hearts beating. We then played fun games to help us move quicker. We then learnt some basic moves and holds. We had lots of fun.
Music - Lesson 1
Big Bear Funk by Joanna Mangona
We listened and appraised the song 'Big Bear Funk' by Joanna Mangona, We were asked the questions: What can you hear? Did you like the music? The children responded verbally and gave some good reasons as to why they liked or didn't like the song. They were able to say what they thought they could hear. We found the pulse using our bodies in different ways and then danced freely to show how it made us feel. Some of us thought it was really funny to dance like a 'Funky Bear', 'Funky Chicken' and a 'Funky Monkey'. We will be revisiting this song every week to learn the lyrics and the actions. We will perform the song to the Nursery children at the end of the term. We will be learning other songs along with actions in addition to our focus song. Today we learnt the Name Song.
Well done everyone!
Music - Lesson 4
My Promise by Earth, Wind and Fire
We listened and appraised the song: ‘My Promise’ by Earth, Wind and Fire. We found the pulse and used our bodies to tap out the beat/pulse of the song. We were asked the questions... Can you remember any of the instruments associated with ‘Funk’ music? What can you hear? Did you like the song? How did the song make you feel?
We recapped on the musical words we have been learning; pulse, rhythm, pitch and tempo. We also used our phonic knowledge to write the names of the instruments we could hear in the song.
Finally we practised our focus song 'Big Bear Funk'.
Well done everyone!
Exploring Purple Mash
In their computing learning, reception have been enjoying exploring Purple Mash. We have been working on our touch pad control and using one finger to move the curser to where we want to go. We all enjoyed practising and creating our own pictures in Purple Mash.
Lifestyle and Fitness Team
We enjoyed a visit from the Lifestyle and Fitness Team. They talked to us about what we should be eating and what makes a healthy diet. We then were shocked to learn how much sugar was in some of our favourite treats. We then finished with a mini exercise class.
