Welcome to Year 3's Summer Term
Wild Africa Homework
Once again Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed an open ended homework task, this time about Wild Africa! The children loved sharing what they had learnt through presentations, posters, videos and even items from Africa! It was a fantastic start to our new topic to get us all hooked!
Multicultural Week - Gurdwara visit
Year 3 and Year 4 kicked off Multicultural Week with a visit to the Guru Gobind Singh Gurdwara in Sunderland. This is a temple where Sikhs pray although members of any religion are allowed to go there and pray. We saw the Guru Granth Sahib (the holy book), lots of beautifully decorated objects and we also visited the langar where we received some food. As a mark of respect and tolerance, we all covered our heads whilst we were inside the gurdwara. This started our fascination with Sikhism and we couldn't wait to learn some more!
Multicultural Week - Homework!
In year 3 we all take a lot of care with our homework and thoroughly enjoyed presenting what we have created to the class. This time we carried out some research and used this to help us create a persuasive advert to convince the reader to visit India. Some chose to make videos, others did powerpoints, posters and leaflets. They were al brilliant and we were definitely persuaded!
Trip to Kirkley Hall
What an incredible day! Year 3 loved seeing all the amazing animals in the zoo as well as exploring and investigating on the woodland trail. Both children and adults learnt so much about the African animals linking to our topic but also about different plants which linked well with our science lessons too. Before we left we even got to handle some guinea pigs and rabbits which was a lot of fun!
Loving the Library!
We are amazing readers in Year 3 and we love nothing more than to visit the newly decorated, KS2 library and curl up with a good book! There is such a selection it is almost difficult to choose which book to take away with us.
Multicultural Week - Indian Printing & Party!
As part of Multicultural Week Year 3 and 4 have designed prints based on typical Indian fabric designs. We then collaborated these patterns to create our own Indian fabric which was beautiful when completed! We also had our own party where we practised some Bollywood dancing, sampled Indian cuisine and finished it with a true or false India quiz to see what we had learnt... It was a close call but the girls team won with a single point! Such a brilliant day!
Quad Kids Tournament!
Some of our children were selected to compete in a Quad Kids tournament at Oxclose Academy against other schools from the local area. They took part in a range of athletics activities and performed incredibly well. Well done!
Investigating Plants
As part of our science lessons we have learnt about the different parts of a plant and their functions. We loved using the magnifying glasses to look closey at parts of a flower such as the stamen, sepal and carpel. After looking at these and learning about what they do, we made a 3D model of a flower and labelled it in small groups.
Tennis!
Eight of our talented children were able to take part in a tennis tournament at the Puma Centre with other Sunderland schools. They played extremely well with some very tough competition and most importantly had a terrific time! Well done!
Multicultural Week - Indian Cooking & Bollywood Dancing!
Year 3 had a fantastic time cooking with Nick the Chef as we made some curry, poppadoms, chipatis as well as dips to try out too! It was so tasty we were all left wanting more! We also spent time with a dance coach learning traditional bollywood moves and a little bit about the history of where bollywood came from. Everyone had lots of fun and there were smiles all round!
Sports Day!
Wow! What a fantastic sports day! Year 3 were brilliant at competing in all the different events and we loved every minute of it! We supported our fellow classmates as well as others in our house teams to give the afternoon a competitive edge! Well done to all children and teams who competed! Our class winners were Pine with 22 points, although Willow won throughout Key Stage 2!
