Year 6 Autumn 2023-24
Electricity!
Year 6 have made a great start to their Science topic of Electricity. We learned how a circuit works, the components that we can use and what each part does. We learned that incomplete circuits don't work as electricity has to be able to flow. Our favourite part was constructing our own circuits.
Safetyworks!
Year 6 had a fun and informative visit to Safetyworks this week! We learned all about anti-social behaviour, road safety, water safety, our own mental health and how to look after it, peer pressure and shoplifting. We all learned a lot from the visit and took home some tips to share with our families.
Year 6 History
Year 6 are thoroughly enjoying their exploration of World War Two. Over recent weeks, we have investigated the Battle of Britain, gathering a wealth of information and facts to share with others. In our last lesson, we studied the Blitz, identifying on maps many of the areas in Britain that were targeted by the Luftwaffe.
Wear Here Bus
Year 6 were lucky enough to visit the Wear Here bus when it came to our school. It is the only bus of its kind in the country. We learned all about the role of the Wear Here bus and how we can go on it to discuss any worries or problems we may have. They even do a free holiday and activity programme during the school holidays which also provide delicious healthy meals. For more information visit www.togetherforthechildren.org.uk/HAF

Fun in the Snow
Today, Year 6 enjoyed some time with friends in the snow. From making snowmen to building igloos, it was a great opportunity to spend time enjoying the winter with friends.
Our Christmas Party!
Year 5 and 6 had a brilliant time at their Christmas Party. They played party games like musical statues, nibble the biscuit, pass the sweet, corners and had a good dance. We were really impressed with their sportsmanship and how well they cooperated.

Through their research, they gained insight into the challenging journeys Tubman undertook and the broader historical context of her actions.
P.E - Fitness
As part of Year 6's P.E. curriculum, they're absolutely thriving in their fitness unit. This lesson, we ramped up the excitement by creating our own mini 'boot camp'. Each pupil had the chance to step into the trainers of a personal trainer for the session. They developed activities like sprinting, skipping, calf raises, star jumps, and heel flicks. By the time we finished, we were all tired – a true testament to the hard work and energy everyone put in. Well done Year 6!
Gymnastics
This term Year 6 are learning gymnastics as part of their PE. To begin with, we have learned different balances like front support and back support and types of rolls - straddle roll, forward roll and backward roll. For some of us this was our first time having a go at these rolls and we did a great job! We have begun to put a routine together and look forward to adding to this and performing this.
Christmas Dinner
Year 6 had a great time enjoying their Christmas dinner at school with friends, highlighted by a surprise visit from Santa.
Persuasive Job Applications

The available positions include Playtime Paramedic, Playtime Assistant, ICT Technician, Register Monitor, Reading Warrior, and Grounds Maintenance. First, they picked their theme, added their wires, created a design and checked and tested. Finally Mrs Watkins came to test her knowledge on our quizzes. They were a great success.
Anti-bullying Week : Make Some Noise!
This year, the theme for Anti-bullying week is Make Some Noise. In assembly, we learned what this means and why it is important to speak up. In class we learned about the roles involved in bullying and the importance of not only the ringleader, but the reinforcers and assistants in bullying. We understood that without the power from reinforcers, bullies are powerless and that we should ensure we are not supporting friends who bully. We also discussed ways we could discuss mean behaviour with our friends in a way where we don't fall out with them but that we can make our voice heard.
Year 5 and 6 Shine in Christmas Nativity Performance!
A huge congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 pupils for their outstanding performance in our Christmas singing nativity today. They sang and performed brilliantly. We're all incredibly proud of their dedication and the fantastic show they put on. Well done, everyone!
