Year 6 Summer 2022-23

King Charles III Coronation

Year 6 had a great day celebrating the King’s Coronation. It was great to see them all dressed in red, white and blue and celebrating together over a Coronation lunch. In the afternoon, we created some pop art in the style of Andy Warhol of Charles and Camilla.

Fencing

As part of Health and Fitness week, Year 6 had some visitors come in to teach them fencing.  We learned how to move forwards and backwards, defend and salute. It was great fun!

Derwent Hill - Gorge Walking

What a fabulous time we had gorge walking! We scrambled over all the rocks, supporting each other along the way. Some groups encountered waterfalls and slides while others had  to leap into the pools below!

Bowling

After raising almost £400 in school, Year 6 enjoyed a visit to Hollywood Bowl at the Galleries.  We had a great game, some getting some strikes and half strikes and enjoyed a meal and some time on the arcades. A well-deserved treat!

Inheritance

In Science we have begun to learn about Evolution and Inheritance. We learned about what inheritance was, what traits could be inherited and how inheritance happens. As part of our lesson we looked at Mr Men and Little Miss characters and considered what their offspring would look like. We designed offspring with characteristics inherited from both parents.

Derwent Hill Day 1

When we arrived on Friday, we had a great day exploring Keswick then for our evening activity we had fun on the low ropes.

Derwent Hill - Canoeing

All groups had a great time on the lake canoeing. After creating a raft out of two canoes, and carrying them to the edge, we had to learn how to paddle in different directions and change direction quickly. We paddled to an island in the middle of the lake and jumped in the water.

Sports Day 2023

We had a fun afternoon for Sports Day competing in a range of events and earning points for our house teams. Well done to Willow who won the overall Key Stage 2 Sports Day with the most points scored.

Well done Year 6!

We are all so proud of Year 6. They have shown such a huge amount of resilience during their recent SATs tests and we know they all tried their very best. They were treated to a well-deserved biscuit from Wendy in the kitchen and an ice cream on the Friday to celebrate the end of their tests.

Derwent Hill - Gladiator challenge

One of our first activities was the Gladiator challenge. This was a personal challenge where we pushed ourselves to our personal limit whether that be reaching the top or climbing half way. We all worked as a team and supported each other.

Derwent Hill- local exploration

On our final day at Derwent Hill all groups spent some time enjoying the beautiful scenery the Lake District has to offer. Some groups climbed to the peak of Latrigg while another visited the Balder Stone.

Aspirations Week

As part of aspirations week, we had visits from a range of professionals who told us about their jobs. We looked specifically at the career pathways available to achieve our dream jobs from apprenticeships, to diplomas to University degrees. It was really interesting. We then looked at our chosen career and the pathway we would have to follow to get there.
