Year 6 Spring Term 2018-19
Pair Balance Gymnastics
Year 6 have started their new P.E unit on gymnastics. This week we discussed floor movements and went over the importance of straight lines and pointed feet and hands. We then went on to create some pair balances.
Heart Dissection
Thank you to Mrs. Hewitt from Oxclose comprehensive school for hosting us in her lab and allowing us to dissect sheep hearts. We were able to identify the main parts of the heart and understand the functions of these parts. We learnt lots of new things and were able to explore the heart and ask questions.
Greek Geography
To start our topic on Ancient Greece, we used i-pads and atlases to locate Greece and investigate the human and physical features of this country.
Snow!
Year 6 had great fun in the snow.
Circulatory System
In Science we have started our unit on animals including the humans. We worked on the circulatory system and how important it is for blood to go all around our body. We discussed the effect of the heart and how the different chambers work. We discussed oxygenated blood and de-oxygenated blood and the direction it travels in.
Safer Internet Day
Year 6 completed lots of different tasks based on keeping safe line and how we can give consent. We discussed online and offline consent and how this can take many forms. We talked about how we share personal information online with companies and also our friends. We talked about what we should do if we are ever concerned.
Greek Drama Workshop
Year 6 had fun filled session with Theatre Scape who taught us about Greek Gods, heroes and mythical creatures. We were able to learn about them and then act them out using a range of actions, facial expressions and team work! Can you spot any famous Greek characters above?
Gymnastics- Flight!
Completing our Gymnastics unit this term we learnt about flight and how we could exit different apparatus. We discussed the tuck, straddle and pike and even came up with some of our own.
A Visit to Nissan
We had a brilliant first day back after half term visiting Nissan. We found out so much about how the factory runs. We were very impressed by the robotic arm in particular!
World Book Day- Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
For World Book Day year 6 completed many activities based around our class text: Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief- Rick Riordan. We created our own class text box and filled them with our completed tasks. These included some clay lightning bolts, greek gods and creatures top trump cards, front covers, comic strips and an author fact file. We then completed a class quiz where Adam and James got the top scores earning themselves a visit to the local bowling alley. We had a great day and look forward to the book bus coming into school next Tuesday.
