Year 2 Spring Term 2017-18
In their Snow Shoes
To start our Daring Discovery topic off we were joined by Durham University. Our visitor told us all about the Antarctica and what it would be like to visit there. We then learnt about Ernest Shackleton's daring journey to cross South Pole. We found out lots of new facts and even had a go of building him a vehicle that may have helped him on his journey!
Symmetry
As part of our shape unit we have been outside making symmetrical patterns. We noticed how things needed to be the same on each side.
Visit to the Life Centre
Year 2 had a brilliant visit to the life centre. We enjoyed learning more about Space including a work shop about living and non living things. We then visited the planetarium to view constellations. We also enjoyed visiting the dinosaur exhibition and viewing the poo show! We have learnt lots of new facts!
Science Morning
We had a fantastic morning doing lots of science investigations. We first investigated moon craters and looked at the impact different asteroids could have on the surface of the moon. Next we looked at patterns that can be made with colours. Finally we learnt about chemical reactions and made our own mini eruption.
Let it Snow!
We felt like we were in Antarctica! There was lots of snow on the field so we made snow angels and made our own snow man! What fun we had!
Fractions
In Maths we have been learning about fractions. We discussed equal and unequal and then thought about halves, quarters and thirds.
Chicks!
The chicks have hatched so we went to pay them a visit. We talked about how they are growing and what makes them living things.
Tall Ship Easter Egg competition!
Well done to all of those who entered our tall ship Easter egg competition! They were all brilliant! Cannon hopper joined us to judge the eggs. Well done to Miya, Ellis and Isabelle!
Multiplication Pyramids!
In our maths investigation we needed to apply our 2, 5, and 10 times table to work out the order they needed to go in. We even were able to record some division number sentences too. Good job year 2!
3D Shape Investigation
In our latest maths investigation we built our own 3D shapes to find out about edges, faces and vertices!
The Nutty Professor!
We started our our science week off with a BANG! The nutty professor joined us to talk about rockets. She taught us about gravity, pressure and lift. We had a great time!
Space Buggies
During our Daring Discovery topic we have designed, made and reviewed our very own moving space buggies. They look great.
